Space to cook, room to linger
Two enthusiastic cooks squeezed along a single counter run, with no perch for the children. Weekend meals meant sidestepping one another.
We claimed a redundant utility nook, set a generous stone-topped island with five seats, and lined the walls in pale oak fronts with a tall larder wall.
Starting point
A slender plan, scant cupboards and flat task light left a beloved kitchen feeling harried and heaped.
What we did
Reset work triangle, deep-drawer wall, honed stone island, open oak shelves and triple-layer lighting.
How it lives now
A composed, chatty kitchen where supper and schoolwork share the island — tools always close by.
